About Lubutu

24 Oct 2008

Lubutu was a Ranger at Rwindi who died of old age. He was known to cry and cry, utterly inconsolable, each time he found an animal that had been killed by poachers.

We are all sad when animals are killed for no reason, but his chagrin was unparalleled.

Lubutu and Nyakamwe

Lubutu the gorilla is small in size compared to Nyakamwe, a blackback – they hit each other and playfully bite each other.

It never descends into anything more serious – but they often end up holding each other and rolling down the hill before coming to a crashing halt in the undergrowth! They are very amusing to watch and entertain us each time we visit! Humba just watches them – he does not engage in what he perceives as childish behavior.
